Many Arizonans support a proposal to replace automobiles with mass transit in the Grand Canyon National Park and would prefer the use of a light-rail train system, a recent poll found.
Officials are proposing that cars be banned at the popular tourist sight in Arizona by 2000 and be replaced with mass transit.
Most of those surveyed also said they supported last month’s increase in park entrance fees. Private vehicles now pay $20 instead of $10, and individuals pay $10 instead of $4.
