Monday Is Last Day To Use Studded Tires
If you’re still driving on Washington roads with studded tires, you have until Monday night to change your treads.
The fine for using studded tires after March 31 is $66, the state Transportation Department said Wednesday. Useful in snowy conditions, the tires cause damage to highways.
Tires rated for mud and snow, carrying the label “Mud and Snow” or “M/S” on the sidewalls, will meet state requirements in the event of a late storm, the department said.
Motorists are warned to carry chains when driving over mountain passes because the weather is unpredictable though temperatures have been mild recently.
