Top Rider Breaks Ribs

Compiled From Wire Services

Hall of Fame jockey Laffit Pincay Jr. suffered three broken ribs in a dramatic spill in the second race at Santa Anita.

Riding Strawberry Patch, Pincay went down heavily when the gelding suffered a compound fracture of the cannon bone in his right foreleg with about three-eighths of a mile to go in the 1-1/16-mile race.

Pincay, 50, was kicked by a trailing horse. He had been scheduled to ride at Auburn, Wash., today, when Emerald Downs opens its spring and summer meet.
