Free Debris Disposal Ends Sunday

From Staff Reports

This is the last weekend for free disposal of ice storm debris in Spokane County.

Residents may dump their splintered limbs and branches at three sites: waste-to-energy plant, 2900 S. Geiger; Valley transfer station, 3941 N. Sullivan; and Colbert transfer station, 22123 Elk-Chattaroy Road.

The facilities are open from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.

Only storm-related debris will be accepted. Branches and brush must be clean, less than 6 inches in diameter and less than 6 feet long.

The Washington State Patrol reminds people to properly secure any loads they haul to the dump sites.

Flying yard waste creates road hazards and is illegal, WSP Sgt. Chris Powell said.

Last weekend, troopers stopped more than 30 cars and trucks hauling uncovered loads near the Colbert transfer station and handed out several $152 fines. , DataTimes
