Two-time Olympic skier Tim Tetreault of Norwich, Vt., outskied World Cup teammate Todd Lodwick of Steamboat Springs, Colo., by 40.6 seconds to win his third nordic combined national championship.

Dave Jarrett, also of Steamboat Springs, took the bronze medal, 77.2 seconds back of Tetreault.

U.S. men’s alpine coach Thomas Karlsson has resigned over differences in how the program is run. Karlsson, a native of Sweden, began coaching the team after the 1994 Olympics. He previously worked with the Swedish national team.

Citing a limited budget and escalating costs, USA Track & Field announced cancellation of the international Grand Prix meet scheduled for June 1 at New Orleans.

The meet is one of two U.S. events on the International Amateur Athletic Federation’s Grand Prix circuit..

Olympic marathon gold-medalist Mamo Wolde was among 73 people arraigned this week on charges of participating in mass killings and torture in the 1970s during the military regime.

Wolde, 65, the 1968 Olympic champion, has been imprisoned since 1992. He is accused of involvement in planning the killings of some 2,000 political opponents of Col. Mengistu Haile Mariam from 1974 to 1978.

Wolde was a captain in the former imperial guard when Mariam overthrew Emperor Haile Selassie.

The owner of the Southern Oregon Timberjacks baseball team of Medford has been scouting the Clark County Fairgrounds in Vancouver, Wash., as a possible new home for his Northwest League baseball club.

The Class A Timberjacks, formerly the A’s, are a farm club of the Oakland Athletics.
