Councilman Held In Molestation
City Councilman David Pitts was being held Wednesday in the Lewis County Jail on a child molestation charge.
Pitts, discharged from a local nursing home Monday afternoon, was arrested at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at a boarding house. He was held in lieu of $10,000 bond, pending arraignment May 8.
Pitts, 40, is charged with four counts of first-degree child molestation. Authorities say he had repeated sexual contact with a Morton girl, now 14, beginning in 1990.
If convicted on all four counts, Pitts faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Pitts had been staying at Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Centralia until Monday afternoon while recovering from injuries suffered in a March 8 car accident.
