Man Arrested For Tying Up Line With Several False Emergency Calls

A 54 year-old North Spokane man remained in custody late Tuesday after making a series of weekend false calls to the county’s emergency crime center.

The man was arrested Monday morning on a charge of second degree malicious mischief.

Police say his bogus calls tied up the 911 center three times over the weekend, including Friday night, the emergency line’s busiest time.

The man made 15 calls in an hour Friday. Police visited his home, telling him to call with legitimate emergencies only. Police again warned him in person Sunday afternoon.

It’s illegal to make false 911 calls.

Bogus calls rarely come into the center, but operators often get unnecessary calls, said spokesman Dick Cottam.

“It’s beyond me why people call 911 to ask about the Mariner’s score,” he said.

Roberts S. Bodey, of 3018 E. Everett, will be released if charges are not filed by today. Mental health officials will also meet with him before he is released.

Subway franchise robbed

A man armed with a kitchen knife held up a northwest Spokane Subway franchise last week. The man, described as a white male in his early 20s, about 5-foot-10, 130 pounds, escaped officers searching the area.

The man entered the shop about 10:30 p.m. last Thursday wearing a stocking cap and demanding money. The man brandished the knife, and the clerk handed over the money.
