St. Paul’s Methodist Celebrating 110th Year
St. Paul’s United Methodist Church is celebrating its 110th anniversary and will kick off a series of events with its “Brunch After Bloomsday” on Sunday. The meal will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, located at 1620 N. Monroe.
St. Paul’s is marking long years of service to the West Central area and serves as a host to many community organizations. The church building houses offices for the Spokane Community Housing Association and Inland Northwest Disaster Relief. St. Paul’s also hosts the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant, which serves meals to low-income families each Tuesday and Wednesday.
The church also provides space for the Foster Care Clothing Network, which gives clothing to children who enter the foster care system. Groups such as Tough Love and Alcoholics Anonymous meet there regularly.
“We try to keep it busy all the time,” says Pastor Homer Todd. “There’s someone here almost every night of the week. It’s terrific.”
The suggested donation for the brunch is $8 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 12. All proceeds will benefit the Spokane Food Bank and Our Place Ministries, which provides food, clothing and other services to West Central residents.
Bloomsday services change
Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church is altering its worship schedule this weekend to accommodate those participating in Bloomsday. A special service will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday and child care will be available. Sunday services will be at 10 and 11:15 a.m. Child care will be available at both services.
Messiah Lutheran Church, 4202 N. Belt, will host a Bloomsday Eve service at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Sunday worship service will be at 10 a.m. and there will be Sunday school this week.
Friends hold yard sale
Spokane Friends Church, 1612 W. Dalke, will host a yard sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Baked goods will also be available for purchase. The proceeds will benefit various mission projects and help fund a youth trip to Mexico to build houses.
