Corps Will Study Palouse Flooding

Associated Press

The Army Corps of Engineers will launch a study of how to prevent future floods along the Palouse River, the agency said Friday.

The $75,000 study was prompted by severe damage from floods of February 1996, and will be funded by the corps.

The study will identify flood control measures near the town of Palouse. Once a cost-sharing sponsor is found, work on the flood control project could begin by the year 2000, the corps said. Possible projects could include levees, floodwalls, diversion channels or pumping stations.
