East Valley Ties Cheney, Claims Frontier Soccer Crown
Chad Misterek’s goal at 25 minutes Tuesday allowed East Valley to tie visiting Cheney 1-1 and win the Frontier League boys soccer title.
Misterek reached the ball amid congestion in the penalty area. His score offset a goal at 7 minutes by Cheney’s Travis Skeman.
EV (12-0-2, 38 points) entered the season-ending match with a one-point lead over Cheney (12-1-1, 37).
EV played without three starters who committed infractions Saturday against Riverside/Deer Park.
EV earns home field for the District 7-AA playoffs, which begin Saturday. Loser-out matches are Cheney against No. 3 R/DP at 1 p.m. and EV vs. No. 4 West Valley at 3.

Tucker Urdahl threw a one-hitter, striking out 10, as the Blackhawks (12-4) defeated the visiting Greyhounds (7-9) to clinch the league title.
Cheney’s Bryan Miller had an RBI single in the first and an RBI double in the fifth.
Cheney started the year 10-0, dropped four straight, then righted itself to capture the crown before its season-ending doubleheader with Riverside. The league title assures the Blackhawks of a regional berth. Nos. 2-4 will play off to determine the other regional spot.
