Panel To Meet At Roosevelt
Residents living on the lower South Hill are invited to attend a neighborhood council meeting at Roosevelt Elementary School Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Historic Cannon’s Addition Neighborhood Council wants to expand its borders to include areas east to Sacred Heart Medical Center and Grand Boulevard and south to 16th Avenue.
The council initially was formed only for Historic Cannon’s Addition, a relatively small residential area bounded by Interstate 90, 14th Avenue, Cedar Street and the bluff to the west.
Janet Davis, head of the existing neighborhood council, said Roosevelt and other schools in the expanded boundaries want to participate in the council, and council members believe the cooperation is a good idea.
“We really want the schools to be involved,” she said.
Sacred Heart officials also have expressed interest in participating in the council.
Davis and other organizers have drawn up preliminary bylaws for adoption by members, along with the proposed new boundaries.
The council will have some say in the delivery of city services to the neighborhood, including public safety, parks and land use issues, Davis said.
