Man Arrested After Standoff With Police

Associated Press

A 29-year-old man was arrested after a six-hour standoff Saturday morning in which he exchanged gunfire with police, hitting one in the arm.

The man was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of attempted first-degree murder, police Lt. William E. Ferguson said.

Names of those involved were not immediately available.

Ferguson said officers responding to a noise complaint at the Bellepark East apartments about 2:15 a.m. heard loud voices in a third-floor unit, knocked on the door and were met by a hostile, intoxicated man who refused to let them enter.

Ferguson gave the following account: By 3 a.m. a 24-year-old male friend left, and the man let his 2-year-old daughter leave as well. Officers then persuaded the man to come out of the apartment without his weapons, but when they tried to arrest him he ran back inside.

Officers followed and the man fired several times, striking one officer in the arm. Another officer returned fire as many as six times without hitting the suspect. The man surrendered at 8:25 a.m.
