Aftershocks Shake Nerves After 6.2 Quake
Aftershocks rattled Japan’s southern island of Kyushu today, a day after a strong earthquake injured 34 people.
More than 100 people slept in public halls and community centers in Sendai following Tuesday’s 6.2-magnitude quake, local police spokesman Kazuhiro Shinchi said.
Landslides occurred at 57 locations and roads were damaged in five areas. Five buildings also were damaged, police said.
By this morning, 37 aftershocks had been reported, the Central Meteorological Agency said. The strongest occurred at 8:32 a.m. with a magnitude of 4.7.
