Faith Presbyterian Moves To New Location

Nina Culver Correspondent

Faith Presbyterian Church has moved to a new home on Highway 2. The church, which has been meeting at the Linwood Seventh-day Adventist Church for the last five years, is now renting space from Northwest Christian High School, 5104 Burn Hill Road.

Church members hope to buy land and build a church eventually, but pastor Darrell Arnold estimates that is about three to five years away.

“We’re going to be renting for a while, probably,” he said.

Meanwhile, church members are happy to have found a new home after losing their old space suddenly. “We’re excited about the opportunity to minister to this community,” says Arnold.

The church, a member of the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA), is the only one of its kind in Spokane. The PCA was formed in 1972 as a conservative offshoot of the Southern Presbyterian Church. The separation came about over issues of the authority of scripture, says Arnold, and the PCA is more conservative on social issues than main-line Presbyterian churches. It has a more conservative interpretation of the Bible.

“We’re not seeking to be culturally relevant or contemporary,” says Arnold. “I think our church is really committed to the family and the Bible. We want to do what’s glorifying to God in worship.”

The church members, more than 100, meet for worship services at 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. each Sunday.

School and church hold fund-raisers

St. Francis Xavier Church, 545 E. Providence, will host its annual raffle and potluck dinner Sunday at 5 p.m. Raffle tickets are $1 and will be available at the dinner. Items to be raffled off include crafts and cash prizes.

The church will provide beverages for the dinner. Those attending are asked to bring their own plates and utensils. The potluck assignments are as follows: Those with last names beginning with A-H bring desserts, I-O bring salads and P-Z bring hot dishes. Singles are asked to bring two dozen rolls.

St. Francis Xavier School is also holding a fund-raiser this weekend. A rummage sale to benefit the school will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The money raised will be used for school maintenance.
