Lc Duo Win Mixed Doubles At Tourney

Anna-Adolphson and Ben Maixner of Lewis and Clark won the mixed doubles championship at the 52nd annual Inland Empire League Tournament on Saturday at Central Valley.

In their first year of playing together, Adolphson and Maixner defeated Kellie Geris and Mark Watson of Kamiakin, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 7-6.

Other placers included Josh Greene of Medical Lake, who finished fourth in boys singles, and Darcy Reumping of Ferris, who finished second in girls singles after losing to Kamiakin’s Katherine Martin 6-4, 6-2.

In boys doubles, Nick Mays and Josh Dyck finished in third place after losing the first set and coming back to beat Greg Jones and Kyle Lester of Wenatchee, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Katie Watts and Megan McKitterick finished in second place after losing to Sarah Ullah and Shannon Urza of Richland 6-2, 6-1.

In a prelude to the IEL, Cheney defeated Medical Lake, 5-2. Greene defeated the Blackhawks’ Bryan Eggart, 6-0, 6-0 on May 9.

Also, Josh Mastel and Jeff Racicot of Medical Lake beat Devin Otto and Keelan Dobbins in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.

Frontier League baseball

The Blackhawks swept the Riverside Rams in Frontier League action - 11-1 in the opener and 8-0 in the second game on Sunday.

Bryan Miller had three RBI’s and was 5-for-6 for Cheney. Colin Fiddes added a two-run double, and Matt Caston had four strikeouts for the Blackhawks.

In the nightcap, Cheney’s Scott Randall hit a basesloaded triple in the fourth inning, and Tucker Urdahl had six strike outs in four innings.

Greater Spokane League baseball

The Tigers’ Tim Kestell hit a double in the fourth inning and a triple in the fifth to give LC a 7-3 win over Rogers.

Saxon catcher Brian Munhall had three RBI’s, including a two-run home run as Ferris beat the North Central Indians 9-5 on Friday.

Munhall drove in four runners and went 2-for-4, but Gonzaga Prep prevailed 10-5 last Thursday. Munhall also threw out four base runners.

Frontier League softball

Ginger Ewing led the Blackhawks with four hits in a doubleheader with Colville on Sunday, but Cheney lost 4-2 and 7-1.

GSL softball

Leann Tumlinson hit a three-run home run in the second inning as the Saxons defeated North Central 10-0 on Friday. Christine Ganey and Jenny Lytle each had two runs batted in for Ferris.

Ganey hit a two-run single with two out in the sixth to help give Ferris the win, 4-2, over Gonzaga Prep last Thursday. Brooke Blevins went 3-for-3 and scored two runs.

LC’s Jill Boardman hit a bases-loaded triple in the seventh with two outs, but the Tigers couldn’t get past University and lost 4-3 last Thursday.
