Silver Mountain To Close Saturday
Silver Mountain will fire up its ski lifts this Saturday for one last time.
A massive snow base and plenty of skier and snowboarder support - 1,400 folks last weekend - have allowed the Kellogg ski area to stay open a month longer than other area resorts. Skiing still is good, said marketing director David Kilmer, but the hot midday sun is making things a little sloppy around the lifts.
“This is historic,” said Kilmer, noting that only Mount Hood and Mount Bachelor, both in Oregon, and Whistler/Blackcomb in British Columbia remain open. All three are traditional late-season ski meccas in the Northwest, he said.
“We’re right up there with the big dogs this year, which is kind of fun,” Kilmer said. “And we owe it all to the skiers.”
DJ music, prizes and a barbecue are planned for Saturday. After lifts close, the gondola will begin its summer season on Memorial Day for both sightseers and backcountry skiers. , DataTimes
