School Levies Go To Voters

The Coeur d’Alene, Lakeland and Kootenai school districts will ask voters today to approve supplemental levies, so that property taxes can be used to maintain or add programs.

The Coeur d’Alene district is seeking a two-year, $2.97 million per year levy that represents 8.3 percent of the district’s budget.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at all schools (except Project CDA) as well as Kootenai Medical Center and North Idaho College.

The Lakeland district is asking voters to approve a one-year levy of $725,000. The money would be used to equip kitchens and buy vans, so that the district can start offering hot lunches. Voters also will be asked to renew a $18,000 levy to pay for activity buses.

Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. at all elementary schools, the Bayview Community Center, and the Hauser and Twin Lakes fire stations.

The Kootenai district wants voters to renew a $175,000, two-year levy to keep schools operating at the current level.

Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. at Harrison Elementary, the Harrison EMT building, fire station at Carlin Bay, Medicine Mountain Grange, and the Sharon Smith residence at Hells Gulch.

Also, a number of Panhandle school districts have board of trustee elections. They are Bonner, Boundary, Kellogg, Kootenai, Lakeland, Plummer/Worley and Post Falls. For details, call the local school district offices.
