Cayuse Pass Highway Reopened

From Staff And Wire Reports

The highway over Cayuse Pass on the eastern edge of Mount Rainier National Park has reopened.

Road crews reopened the section of Washington 123 at 8:15 a.m. Friday, Department of Transportation spokeswoman Clarissa Lundeen said.

The highway typically closes for the winter in mid-November and reopens in the spring. Its latest reopening was on May 28 in 1993.

Chinook Pass on Washington 410 - the highway that leads from the park’s eastern edge down to Yakima - remained closed because of deep snow. Crews are expected to have it reopened sometime next week, Lundeen said.
