Road Work Schedules
Work on East Sherman is nearing completion, but two additional projects scheduled for this week are expected to close traffic on a number of other streets.
Sealing project: It’s been a dozen years since 15th Street was last paved, and it’s showing its age.
But city engineers are convinced they can extend the thoroughfare’s lifespan with a sealing project scheduled to begin today.
Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians are being asked to avoid 15th - and a number of other streets - scheduled to be sealed beginning today.
Crews will be at 15th Street from Best to Thomas Lane. In addition, West Fairway Drive from South Fairway to Westwood Court, South Fairway from West Fairway to Appleway, and North Fairway Drive from West Fairway to East Fairway also will be sealed.
On Thursday, work resumes on 15th Street from Best to Mary. In addition, Wallace Street from Fifth to 10th, Milwaukee from Idaho to A Street, and Montana from Fourth to Seventh all get similar treatment.
The $14,000 project concludes Friday, when the entire length of Carriage Court will be sealed.
Sealing will be done with a combination of oil and sand. Traffic should avoid the streets between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on days when work is planned.
In addition, city engineers are asking homeowners along these routes not to water their lawns, wash their cars, or allow water to run onto the streets.
“The purpose is to get a little more life out of the pavement before we have to do an overlay,” said city engineer Dick Suchocki. “We probably gain three to five years before we have to redo the street.
Centennial Trail bridge: Atlas Road near Post Falls will be closed today from 7 p.m. until midnight while crews install support beams for a Centennial Trail bridge there. One eastbound lane of Interstate 90 also will be closed during those hours.
East Sherman: Contractors still are cleaning up construction sites on East Sherman and pavement will be marked today, but the end is in sight.
Just after traffic signals are activated Thursday morning, a ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. at the intersection of Eighth and Sherman. The project is about one month ahead of its original completion date.
