Boeing-Machinist Dispute Is Resolved

A dispute over job assignments for Boeing Co. parts managers called expediters has been resolved with all keeping their jobs and remaining within the Machinists union.

The settlement was hailed Friday by a top union leader as a major victory, and a company representative said it would be a model for avoiding conflict over future efficiency moves.

The agreement reached Thursday resolved an unfair labor practice complaint that was filed in August by District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. It initially affected 800 to 1,200 employees.

The National Labor Relations Board upheld the complaint in March, and a hearing before an administrative law judge had been scheduled for June 18.

Bill Johnson, president of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, District 751, declared the agreement a “critical victory,” stressing that the union won’t buckle at attempts to eliminate union jobs.
