Christ Lutheran Church Offers Divorce Recovery Seminar
Divorce is often painful for both the adults and children involved, so Christ Lutheran Church is offering a seminar designed to ease the transition for families.
The six-week divorce recovery seminar will be offered at the church, 13009 E. Broadway, on Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m., beginning June 18.
The seminar will deal with the stages of divorce, the spiritual aspects of divorce, getting on with life, rebuilding for kids, and establishing new goals for parents and children.
The first four classes are for adults only, but the last two classes, on July 23 and 30, will be open to children ages 6 and up.
The seminar will be taught by Bob Newcomb, a pastor who works part time at Christ Lutheran as a counselor.
It is a little unusual for divorce recovery seminars to include children, said Christ Lutheran Pastor Tom Shelly, but there are things they need to know about getting through divorce and Newcomb is aware of this.
“I know he’s got a little bit different approach to these things,” Shelly said.
The cost of the class is $5 per person per session. Child care will be provided at no extra charge if requested in advance. To register, call the church office at 928-7733. Christ Lutheran is also currently registering children for its vacation Bible school, which will run June 16-20. “Kids in Action” is open to all children age 4 through the sixth grade. Classes will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. each day.
The cost is $8 per child with a maximum of $16 per family. Child care will be provided for children of parents volunteering at the school. The registration deadline is June 8. To register, call the church office.
