He Saw, She Saw

Logan Graf, Lake City Patrice W

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’

The stars: Freddie Prinze, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Gellar

The plot: Four teens make a deadly mistake that comes back to haunt them the following summer.

HE SAW

A psycho killer who has a hook for a hand is out to kill young lovers. Sounds corny, doesn’t it? I certainly thought so. There were some parts of the movie I enjoyed, especially any scene that featured Prinze. Prinze stole the stage every time, playing an ambitious young working class boy named Ray. Though quiet, his character is like a magnet, grabbing your attention immediately.

Hewitt plays Julie, the true heroine of the movie and Ray’s girlfriend. She is the better of the two females in the film. Gellar of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” fame, plays Helen, the coveted Croaker Queen of the small fishing village. Some people like Gellar, but frankly I found her annoying.

The film was fun, but predictable. I hope this isn’t a return to the age of cheap copycat horror films that try to mimic the original successes. This movie doesn’t equal the sheer scariness of “Scream.”

Grade: B

SHE SAW

Don’t believe the hype, this movie is definitely not a must see. Yes, it was scary. But it also was predictable. For example, in one of the opening scenes, it’s obvious the man who was hit by the main character’s car is not dead. Everyone knows this from the trailers that have been playing on TV. Anyone can predict that the “dead guy” will reach out and grab somebody. The only suspenseful part is not knowing when it will happen.

The characters are extremely superficial, weak people and I found them annoying because they say one thing in the beginning of the movie and then as soon as they think someone is going to kill them, their whole attitude changes.

I’ll give the movie a small amount of credit because it did have me jumping in my seat, but overall, I left the theater unsatisfied.
