No Bowl For Texas Tech
Texas Tech announced that it won’t accept a possible bowl bid or a berth in the Big 12 title game, citing recent allegations of widespread NCAA rules violations in the athletic department.
The decision came four days after Tech released a 57-page NCAA letter detailing alleged multiple rules violations in 18 areas.
The Copper Bowl in Tucson, Ariz., got a new sponsor and a new name, re-designating itself as the Insight.com Bowl. Tempe-based computer company Insight Enterprises Inc. entered into a deal with the 9-year-old game to change the name.
Iowa State football players Jamel Joyner and Shaka Jones were charged with burglary for looting dormitory rooms after the building was evacuated because of a fire. Both have been suspended from the team.
