Mark Calcavecchia, who got in only eight holes in Thursday’s rain-delayed first round, played 28 on Friday and wound up with a tournament-record 62 in the opening round of the $2 million Sarazen World Open in Braselton, Ga.

He shot a 67 for a 129 total, 15-under-par and a commanding 7-stroke lead at the halfway mark.

Davis Love III, this year’s PGA Championship winner, made two eagles, one a 10-footer on the final hole, to pull into a tie with David Toms at the midway mark of the $1.2 million Kapalua International Tournament in Kapalua, Hawaii.

Former Pullman resident Kirk Triplett shot a 65 and is one shot behind the leaders.

Bob Duval shot a 66 to tie Hale Irwin and Gil Morgan at 9-under 135 for the lead of the Senior Tour Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

At Hanno, Japan, thousands of Japanese fans ran ahead to the next hole to grab the best viewing spots after Tiger Woods teed off in a $600,000 skins match, the key event of the Tiger Woods Invitational.

The foursome of Woods, Nick Price, Mark O’Meara and Japan’s Shigeki Maruyama is playing 18 holes at the 6,738-yard, par-70 Musashigaoka Golf Course.

Through nine holes, Woods led with prize money of $110,000.
