Reservations Halt
National Parks
The National Park Service has stopped accepting reservations for camping in 16 of its most popular parks because it has terminated the contract of the computer marketing company that was doing the work.
While the Park Service seeks a new supplier, no reservations can be taken, although existing reservations will be honored.
Reservations have already been taken as far ahead as five months. The Park Service said it expects to offer cancellations starting this week by phone, at (800) 365-2267, or by e-mail, at wasoradfees@nps.gov.
A new contract for telephone reservations should be in effect before the next summer crush, parks officials said.
The eight of the 16 parks where camping continues through winter will go to a first-come, first-served system, normal in the slow seasons in many places.
Yellowstone reservations are not affected; Amfac handles them at (307) 344-7311.
