Dedication Set For Airway Heights Library

Amy Scribner Staff writer

The newly opened Airway Heights Library will be formally dedicated this weekend. Spokane County Library District and City of Airway Heights officials will be on hand, as well as community members involved in the library construction.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday. An open house with refreshments and children’s entertainment will follow.

The library is located at 1213 S. Lundstrom Street.

The 4,000-square-foot facility opened Oct. 23. It replaces a 700-square-foot library that had been at the same site since the county library district began providing service to Airway Heights in 1990.

The new building makes possible nearly twice the inventory as the previous library.

The city is providing the site for a $10-per-year lease and installed landscaping, sidewalks and paving.

The library “is an example of a mutually beneficial public partnership,” said district Director Mike Wirt. Voters approved the $710,000 project as part of the library district’s $8 million 1996 capital improvement program bond issue.

The district’s next major project is design and construction of a new library in Deer Park. It will replace the facility currently located in the City Hall basement.
