Husky arrogance loathsome

Please feel free to pass this along to Mr. (Art) Theil (Seattle Post-Intelligencer columnist):

He forgot the two most definitive items in the list.

You are probably a Husky if …

You carry the first four words of the Husky fight song in your heart as your personal credo and main personality trait.

You are probably a Cougar if …

You loath such arrogance, especially considering the source. Carl Harder Colfax

Husky says let the trend continue

WSU football player Chris Jackson’s comments concerning the University of Washington’s football team (Nov. 17) included, “I don’t have much respect for them as people or players… .” Again, this exposes the structural inferiority complex that some Cougars experience when comparing their institution with the University of Washington.

I am a Spokane native and second-generation Husky who always supports my alma mater, wishes the Cougars well and enjoys a mutually respectful rivalry with many Cougars friends, including my wife.

However, Jackson’s statements have inspired me to encourage the Huskies to continue what our recent baseball, basketball, volleyball, last two football teams, paid football attendance, GTE District Football Academic Team and most importantly, the 1997 U.S. News and World Report academic rankings, have accomplished, re-enforce the complex. Go Huskies, beat the Cougars again!!! P. Edward Walther Spokane

Ducks were OVERbearing

The verdict is in. It cannot be OVERturned or OVERruled. OVERall, the Huskies have been OVERranked, OVERrated, OVERblown, and very UNDERLambrilliant.

(Nov. 8), they failed to OVERcome and OVERtake. Simply put, OVERshadowed and OVERquaked. Huskies were OVERconfident in front of an OVERwhelmed Husky home crowd. The Ducks OVERpowered, OVERhauled, and OVERran the Husky football team and its OVERego. So, why did the Huskies rollOVER and play dead? Perhaps they were OVERconfident. Or could it be a few plays need a good OVERhauling? And, the next question is, did the media just plain go OVERboard with hype? Without being OVERly conspicuous, any hope of a Rose Bowl appearance now seems to be, well, - OVER! Ryan L. Winkey Pullman

Doggedly clueless

The verdict is most definitely in. Mr. Arley Bischoff, your story has been OVERturned and positively OVERblown about your UNDERachieving beloved Huskies.

(Nov. 8) the Huskies, in front of an OVERflowing home crowd, were DOGGEDLY whipped by a VERY eager bunch of Ducks, a team the Cougars OVERpowered in a VERY hostile environment. The Ducks flew high and OVERwhelmed and OVERran an obviously OVERconfident and OVERranked Husky football team and left all those fans feeling hungOVER.

Let’s figure your OVERrated logic by simple mathematics. A Husky team ranked in the Top Five to begin the year will have to play their DOGGEDLY hearts out to save face in the Pac-10, much less their OVERboard hype of a top finish in the national rankings. Yet the Cougars were picked to finish near the bottom of the Pac-10. Now they are 8-1, have a Heisman Trophy candidate in OUTstanding QB Ryan Leaf, and, must I say, “well, ahem” Rose Bowl chances are still VERY much alive.

Perhaps your OVERconfident knowledge of football and sportsmanship needs some serious OVERhauling before you write such a DOGGEDLY CLUELESS letter to a well-educated media here in Cougar Country.

Forever WAZZU. Bob Payne Post Falls
