Dollar Mixed In Quiet Trading
The dollar finished slightly higher against the Japanese yen Monday but was barely changed against the German mark in subdued trading after the failure of a major Japanese brokerage.
The closure of Japanese financial markets for a national holiday and the upcoming Thanksgiving break kept dealings quiet after Yamaichi Securities became the biggest Japanese company to fold since World War II.
The dollar’s gains also were limited because the U.S. currency already has risen sharply vs. the yen in the past month while Japan’s economic troubles worsened.
