Indy Speedway Adds Race
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, once the exclusive domain of the Indianapolis 500, added a third event Monday by becoming part of the International Race of Champions series.
The Speedway also has staged the NASCAR Brickyard 400 Winston Cup race since 1994, when it became the first non-Indy car race on the 2-1/2-mile oval track in more than 80 years.
The annual four-race IROC series will begin Feb. 13 on the 2-1/2-mile Daytona International Speedway tri-oval, its traditional opening site.
The 100-mile IROC event will be run at Indianapolis on July 31, the day before the Brickyard 400.
