49 Degrees North Will Open Today

Ski season is here, barely.

Today, Chewelah’s 49 Degrees North joins Lookout Pass on the Idaho-Montana border on the short list of open Inland Northwest ski resorts.

But like Lookout, 49 Degrees North lacks enough snow to cover all the rocks. The ski report suggests bringing equipment suitable for sparse coverage. Tickets are discounted to $20.

Lookout Pass’ slopes were full of skiers Friday, said General Manager Dean Cooper. The resort had 26 inches of snow on the ground, enough to cover about 70 percent of the runs.

“It’s a lot like spring skiing,” Cooper said. “We had a person up here in shorts today.”

Schweitzer Mountain, Silver Mountain and Mount Spokane ski resorts remain closed due to lack of snow. , DataTimes
