Cafe Owner Will Pay For Hepatitis Shots

The Panhandle Health District is offering immune globulin shots today for anyone exposed to hepatitis A by eating at Bobby’s Cafe in Post Falls Nov. 15 or 16.

The shot is only good when administered up to two weeks after exposure, said Dave Hylsky, an environmental health specialist for the Panhandle Health District.

The owner of the cafe, Bob Frazey, volunteered to pay for the shots, which normally cost around $15 per person.

One of his employees contracted the virus from eating at a Spokane restaurant where a foodhandler had it, Frazey said.

In Spokane County, there have been more than 120 cases of hepatitis A. In Kootenai County, there have been about 25 cases in the past several months, Hylsky said.

Health officials believe as many as 600 people may have been exposed to the virus in Post Falls.

The clinic will last from 9 a.m. to noon today at the Coeur d’Alene Office of the health district at 2195 Ironwood Court.
