Vandals Trip Marshall For First Win

Idaho picked up its first win of the season Saturday, defeating Marshall 65-62 at the Wahine Classic in Honolulu.

Idaho improves to 1-4 and will play in the consolation game at 1:10 p.m. today.

Idaho guards Kelli Johnson and Susan Woolf combined to make 7 of 16 (44 percent) from 3-point range, yet the Vandals connected on just 32 percent (20-63) of their shots from the field.

Johnson, whose 24 points fell one short of her career high, hit 4 of 9 from 3-point range and Woolf was 3 of 7. Johnson, a senior from Moscow, Idaho, also had five steals and three assists.

Meanwhile, Woolf, a sophomore point guard, finished with a career-high 19 points, helped by 8 of 9 shooting from the free-throw line. Idaho, outrebounded by 23 in its loss to Iowa State on Friday, pulled down 42 rebounds compared with Marshall’s 35. The Vandals also had 18 offensive rebounds.

Kristina Behnfeldt topped Marshall with 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

North Idaho 80, Everett 57

Tammy Goyne tossed in a game-high 27 points, grabbed eight steals and snagged eight rebounds to lead the Cardinals (2-0) past Everett in the Bellevue Thanksgiving Tournament.

Erin Dowhy added 18 points and eight rebounds as NIC advanced to the championship game against Community Colleges of Spokane today at 4 p.m.

Carissa Roosma paced Everett with 12 points.

CCS 67, Bellevue 44

Shelley Massingale scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Community Colleges of Spokane over Bellevue in the Bellevue Thanksgiving Tournament.

The victory puts the Sasquatch (2-0) in the title game against North Idaho College today at 4 p.m.

Kelli Pilkington added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Sasquatch.

Alecia Rochelle scored a game-high 18 for Bellevue.

The Broncos shot a blistering 61 percent from the field in a runaway non-league victory over the Eagles at Santa Clara, Calif.

Kim Sorenson came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points for Santa Clara (3-1).

Eastern Washington (0-3) was led by the 11 points of Tracy Ford.
