Passenger traffic at Spokane International Airport continued to run behind last year’s record pace during the month of August.

For the month, 309,002 passenger got on or off airplanes at the airport, down 5.3 percent from August of 1996. For the first eight months of the year, 7.5 percent fewer passengers got on or off planes than did during the first eight months of 1996.

Air cargo is moving through the airport at a higher rate, though. For the first eight months of the year, 34,565 tons of cargo was handled at Spokane International, 10 percent more than during the same period last year. During the month of August, freight handling was up 26 percent over August 1997.

Felts Field reported an 85 percent decrease in freight movement for the month, and is down 51 percent during the first eight months. , DataTimes
