Devlin Faces Surgery

Compiled From Wire Services

Bruce Devlin, a 59-year-old Australian who won eight times on the PGA Tour, is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday in Scottsdale, Ariz., to remove his cancerous right kidney.

The PGA Tour said doctors discovered the cancer this week during an examination at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Devlin tied for 56th Sunday in the senior tour’s Emerald Coast Classic at Milton, Fla.

“I have full confidence in the doctors I’m working with,” Devlin said in the tour’s release. “They tell me I have about a 95 percent chance of full recovery, and there’s no reason I can’t go on and live a full and normal life, provided the cancer hasn’t spread.”
