Librarian Claims Ewu Guilty Of Bias
Estela Radovancev, an Eastern Washington University librarian, has accused the school of race and age discrimination.
Radovancev also has charged the United Faculty of Eastern union of illegally dropping its support of her in her claims against the university.
Radovancev, through Spokane attorney Fred Montoya, filed the suit Sept. 5 in Spokane County Superior Court. Both would not comment.
Eastern’s administration and the union’s grievance officer also declined to comment.
The suit claims that Radovancev joined the Kennedy Library in 1988 and received positive evaluations from her superiors. That changed, however, when a new dean of libraries began a fresh evaluation method allegedly aimed at singling out Radovancev because of her age and nationality.
The suit said that Radovancev is between 40 and 70 years old and of Mexican ancestry.
Radovancev claimed in the suit that her “feelings of self-worth and dignity as a tenured faculty member” were stripped away. She also claimed to suffer from loss of “promotional opportunities and loss of income.”
