St. Paul Lutheran Forms Partnership With S.D. Church
St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2159 N. Hamilton, has become a partner congregation to Bethany Lutheran Church in Java, S.D.
The partnership was formed in response to a plea by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America’s Domestic Disaster Response to help churches in the upper Midwest damaged by winter storms and spring flooding.
All Lutheran churches were asked to participate and each damaged church has several partners around the country offering support, says Karen Bryant, St. Paul’s council secretary.
The healthy churches pray for their damaged partners, collect donations to help them rebuild, and offer support in the form of written notes of encouragement.
St. Paul’s has just sent its first letter to Bethany Lutheran and is awaiting a response, says Bryant. Despite the physical distance between the two churches, they are still part of our community, says Bryant.
“They’re still our neighbors and we need to try to help them too. This is our way to help our neighbor,” she said.
