Campaign For State Wwii Memorial Kicks Off

From Staff And Wire Reports

Dozens turned out Friday as the site of the state’s World War II memorial was dedicated and the design officially unveiled.

The memorial, which features five large bronze leaves and a winding strip of bronze wheat stalks, will be built on the Capitol campus.

The event marked the formal kick-off for a fund-raising effort. About $40,000 in private donations has been raised toward the estimated $600,000 cost. Plans call for the memorial to be dedicated in November 1998.
