Eight decades ago, a movie studio in Minnehaha Park was abuzz with activity.

Hollywood filmmakers Tyrone Power Sr. and Nell Shipman made silent movies like “Fool’s Gold” and “The Grub Stake” there.

Among the activities focusing on the history of this northeast Spokane park are public tours today and the showing of “The Grub Stake” tonight.

Today’s schedule:

All morning, EWU archaeology students, Bureau of Land Management archaeologists and the Spokane Preservation Advocates will do exploratory work of the film studio site.

Noon to 5 p.m.: 20-minute historic walking tours of the park. Tours begin at the west end of Minnehaha Park (just east of Esmeralda Golf Course).

6 p.m.: “The Grub Stake,” starring Shipman and filmed at the Minnehaha studio, will be shown at the Cooper Elementary School gymnasium. It’s free and open to the public. , DataTimes
