Farrakhan Praises Stern Message For Men

Associated Press

Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan said Sunday that he has “nothing but praise” for the Promise Keepers and that the Christian men’s group - like his Nation of Islam - is coming under fire because Americans don’t know how to handle a stern religious message.

“Any call that brings men in particular back to God and makes men atone for the abuse of women and the neglect of their wives and families is a good call, so I have nothing but praise for the Promise Keepers,” Farrakhan said during a stop on his nationwide “revival tour.”

Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam also came under fire two years ago for his Million Man March, which some critics said wrongly excluded women and promoted traditional sexist views of the family. Those same criticisms were levied against the Promise Keepers.

“Even if I as a person am not liked, if the call to atonement is a proper message, accept the message even if you will not accept the messenger,” Farrakhan said.
