Climbers Tie The Knot
David and Katherine Scott’s marriage started where many others end - on the rocks.
The Puyallup couple said their “I dos” Saturday atop a 600-foot precipice known as Castle Rock. The Scotts used ropes to climb up the last 300 feet of the rock, which overlooks the Tumwater Canyon.
The best man, Mike Rowley, also of Puyallup, climbed with the couple and photographed the event.
Twenty-five relatives and friends took the easy way up: a hiking trail.
A light rain sprinkle stopped and the sun broke through the clouds moments before a pastor pronounced them husband and wife.
“It was awesome, just a little wet,” Katherine Scott said of the climb. “But it was nice and easy, and it was fun.”
The Scotts, both avid climbers, took the same route up the rock that they had taken on their first date six years ago.
The Scotts were roped together for the climb.
“It’s symbolic,” David Scott said. “I trust her with my life, and she trusts me with hers.”
The Scotts met while working for University Place School District in Tacoma, where he is a technology administrator and she’s a computer technician.
