Home For Mentally Ill Wins National Honor

From Staff And Wire Reports

A unique home for Spokane’s mentally ill has received national recognition.

Pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Co. is honoring Raymond Court, 518 S. Browne, as a haven for the mentally ill.

Raymond Court opened in March 1996, housing up to 14 people stable enough to live outside a hospital but still in need of medical help.

Nurses Susan Napier and Janet Wheatley own and operate the home. They house, feed and care for patients at one-sixth the cost of Eastern State Hospital.

Napier and Wheatley will be flown to Washington, D.C., later this month to receive the $5,000 Lilly Schizophrenia Reintegration Award. , DataTimes
