Women’s Group Seeks Feedback On Radioactivity

From Staff And Wire Reports

The League of Women Voters of Washington wants to hear from people about what to do with vast quantities of radioactive waste and stockpiled plutonium from the government’s nuclear weapons program.

The group is helping pay for a series of regional workshops in Spokane, Portland, Richland and Seattle this month.

Northwesterners living near Hanford “have a crucial perspective” in the national debate over nuclear waste disposal, project manager Lael Braymer said.

Other groups, including the U.S. Department of Energy and the Hanford Education Action League of Spokane, also are helping with the workshops.

The Spokane session is Oct. 22 at the Ridpath Hotel, 515 West Sprague. It will start with informal displays and briefings from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a workshop.
