Lewistown Nails Win; Cops Look To Nail Culprits

Associated Press

About 250 students, teachers and volunteers spent Friday morning clearing more than 15 gallons of nails from the Lewistown High School football field.

Police said vandals spread the nails on the field sometime during the night. Lewistown beat Belgrade 29-14 Friday night in its homecoming game.

Lewistown Police Sgt. Dave Sanders said people cleaned up most of the nails, but industrial magnets double-checked their work, picking up another 100 nails.

Sanders said the nails - some used for galvanized roofing - posed a serious threat to players.

He said there are suspects who will be interviewed during the weekend. They could face charges of criminal endangerment.
