Wiyrick, Former Springdale Mayor, Dies At 74

Former Springdale Mayor Fred Wiyrick, 74, died of cancer Wednesday.

After a stint on the Town Council, he served one term as mayor from 1974-77. In those days, the job also included being police chief.

“He was so glad when his term was up,” recalled one of his sons, Lt. Dave Wiyrick of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department. “Every time a dog barked, he got the call.”

The elder Wiyrick operated a septic tank pumping business and painted barns for a living.

In addition to Dave Wiyrick, he is survived by his wife, Martha, who lives in the family home at Springdale, and another son, Bill, of Grand Coulee, Wash.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home in Spokane. , DataTimes
