Leap Of Faithful
On the third Saturday of each October, hundreds of thrill seekers leap 876 feet off the New River Gorge Bridge near Fayetteville, W.Va. Their hobby is known as BASE jumping, for Bridge, Antennae, Spans and Earth. This Saturday, 12 people jumped off at the same time for Bridge Day, which organizers said broke the world record. A highlight was Team Elvis, made up of five men in white jumpsuits, painted-on sideburns and black wigs, who traveled up from Louisiana to leap from the single-span, steel arch. Three people have died in Bridge Day jumps.
