Protesters Do Disservice To Faith Letter Of The Week: From Oct. 11, 1997

This letter is directed toward the people protesting KXLY’s airing of the new program, “Nothing Sacred.”

If Michelle Lowell really believes that this particular program takes her church into the “liberal woodshed” (Spokesman Review, Oct. 3), then she and those who feel as she does have turned me from Catholicism forever.

As I watched the first three episodes, I finally saw a believable portrayal of a loving, forgiving God reaching out to the same outcasts and “losers” as that man who walked in Galilee (and questioned his faith also as he cried in Gethsemane).

The actions, language and questions used by the characters speak to the unfortunate in the way the unfortunate understand, the way the troubled understand, the way the lost understand. This is the love your savior taught me. If those protesting think this is a mockery of Catholicism, then their Catholicism is a mockery of God. Randy J. McCrea Spokane
