Bad Driver Parks In Jail On Two Counts Of Assault
A Spokane Valley man was arrested Sunday for allegedly biting and punching two people who tried to disable his car after an accident, sheriff’s deputies said.
Roger E. Caperon, 35, was booked into Spokane County Jail on two counts of second-degree assault. Misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and three counts of hit and run are pending, Spokane County sheriff’s deputies said.
The incident began about midnight Sunday when a man driving a 1991 Oldsmobile rear-ended a pickup truck heading eastbound on Interstate 90 at Sprague, deputies said.
After the collision, the driver of the Oldsmobile continued east on Sprague and the pickup followed. Deputies said the driver of the Oldsmobile then ran into a car at Sprague and Thierman.
The truck driver began flashing his headlights to warn other drivers while the Oldsmobile continued to swerve and hit curbs, deputies said.
A second driver began following the Oldsmobile and saw it hit a third vehicle at Sprague and Bowdish, deputies said.
The Oldsmobile then came to a stop at Third and Pines. The two drivers who had been following the Oldsmobile tried to keep the driver from fleeing, deputies said.
The driver refused to cooperate with the two motorists and the pair reached in to grab the keys and steering wheel, deputies said. The man in the Oldsmobile then bit one man on the arm, breaking the skin. He punched the second man in the nose hard enough to draw blood, deputies said.
The man in the Oldsmobile got out of the car and ran to an apartment building, threatening to call police. He was arrested after everyone involved was interviewed.
