Drug Suspect Suffers Cardiac Arrest

A man arrested on drug charges went into cardiac arrest in his cell at the Spokane County Jail late Wednesday, police said.

Kelvin Davis, 27, remained at Sacred Heart Medical Center in critical condition late Wednesday.

Doctors told police that Davis may have earlier swallowed a baggie full of drugs, which caused the attack, Spokane Police Sgt. Joe Peterson said.

The California man was arrested during a traffic stop at about 3:45 p.m. after officers found drugs in his possession, Peterson said. He was booked into jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

About 9:30 p.m. Davis went into cardiac arrest, Peterson said. Emergency personnel tried to resuscitate him for about 15 minutes before he responded. He was then taken to the hospital. , DataTimes
