Joe Dahmen

Freeman School Board, unchallenged incumbent

Personal: Age 45 … market manager for Monsanto Agricultural Group … married, six children … served four years on Freeman’s board.

Education: Gonzaga Prep, bachelor’s in agricultural economics from Washington State University … favorite class, history … least favorite, sociology … last book read, a John Grisham novel; now reading a Tom Clancy novel. “That’s how I entertain myself.”

Issues: Keep making progress on test scores, school discipline and technology in the schools … creating the next five-year plan, Freeman 2000 and Beyond.

Accomplishments: Fulfilling many changes called for in the last five-year plan, Freeman Focus, including improvement in test scores, school discipline and technology … Increasing the number of volunteers in Freeman schools … “There are no hidden agendas on this board. It’s a real team.”

If I were king for a day: “I’d like to have all the available dollars to do all the things we’d like to do over the next 10 or 15 years for our schools, and I’d like to have those dollars right now, so we could get started on them. Because we’ll need to spend money on technology, school improvements, even buying land. It’ll run into the millions.”
