East Valley School Board, unchallenged incumbent
Personal: Age 45 … mother, housewife and volunteer … 14 years in the community … married, three children … new hobby, “spending time with my new grandson” … served 6 years on East Valley’s board.
Education: graduated from high school in Boulder, Mont … favorite class, Problems of American Democracy … least favorite, science … last book read: “Amazing Grace” by Toni Morrison.
Issues: Continuing to get the district in line with the essential learnings … better communication among parents, teachers and administrators … school-to-work, so that K-12 students know the relation between learning and our work world.
Accomplishments: Helping to get East Valley’s bond passed, so that extra classrooms could be added at several schools … supporting the school levies … working with the Washington State School Directors Association and lobbying for children’s services through the national school directors group.
If I were king for a day: “I would change the evaluation process, so that we could encourage our staff to keep updated on their teaching styles, and offer us a chance to find a different position for them if they cannot meet the standards the district has set.”
